My name is Yoan Figueroa and I was born in Havana Cuba in 1992. From a very young age I showed interest in art and always had the support of my parents. After years of training I perfected my skills and art knowledge and; did the aptitude test to join San Alejandro; the most prestigious and professional art academy in Cuba...and passed! My school years in San Alejandro were the best, I got to work and experience different mediums such as sculpture, printmaking, drawing, painting.. and I had the privilege to work with great artists as teachers, that really showed their love and respect for this craft. I graduated in 2011 with a mayor in painting. Afterwards, I got the honor to join a restauration workshop at San Geronimo University in Havana, as part of my post-graduate program. There I worked as a polychrome artist under the supervision of Eusebio Leal (1942-2020) who was the most famous historian in all Cuba. While working at the university I restored frames, valuable pieces of art and sculptures and artwork from churches around the area. I had the chance to understand the importance of art restoration, in order to keep and preserve valuable art for this and future generations.
In 2013 I did my first professional show HAIKU as a solo artist at the Guayasami Gallery in Old Havana. Following the great success of that fist show, I started commercializing my art for three years. At the same time, by 2018, my tattoo career was taking off, doing some work here and there for close friends, nothing professional but I really fell in love with this new (to me) art form. After years of hard work and taking a break from tattoos; and with the help of my wife, We decided to come to United States in 2022, in order to provide a better life for ourselves and our son. Once here in United States, I worked as a food delivery guy, in construction, doing some portrait commissions here and there but; I knew I wanted to jump back on the tattoo industry after 5 years of experience, but this time taking it more seriously. I looked for many tattoo studios in the Jacksonville area until i found VIRGO'S and joined their team in March of 2024 and it really has been a great opportunity to keep growing as an artist and keep on perfecting my skills in this ever-growing industry.
